Gold, Silver, Metal Prices Commentary – October 15, 2010

Good Morning, Without giving details as to just how, how much or how little, and –most importantly — when, Fed Chairman Bernanke this morning pitched "a case" for further action by the US central bank at a Boston Fed conference. However, the tone being used by the Fed’s head was a bit on the ‘fuzzy’ side — at least as markets were concerned. The U.S. government printed nearly 100 million fewer bills in July than in June, marking a second straight monthly production decline and the lowest level of the year, according to figures from the agency responsible for manufacturing U.S. currency. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) released the final July numbers on Friday. The data shows it made $1s, $5s, $20s and $100s — the same denominations it produced between February and June. $10s and $50s have not been printed since June 2009.... Historic 1907 $10 Pattern in Heritage Boston ANA Auction

The only known Plain Edge 1907 $10 coin with Wire Rim, designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens – and likely the only example of his coinage that he ever saw – is among the most historically important pieces in Heritage’s upcoming U.S. Coin auction. Gold Prices Jump Above $1200; Metals Commentary – August 6, 2010

Gold, based on early indications, appears compelled to extend its rally and end above $1200 an ounce on Friday. That would seal 8-days of straight increases — the longest string of gains since November. In the early going, Gold jumped as the dollar fell following weaker-than-expected U.S. jobs numbers. U.S. gold futures for December delivery rallied to $1212.80 an ounce, registering an increase of $13.50 as of 10:32 AM Eastern Time. Silver was $18.550 an ounce, surging 22.9 cents. Platinum was $8.80 higher to $1581.30 an ounce. Palladium was down $1.90 to $494.15 an ounce. US Mint Sales: Sets Remain Most Active, Bullion Gold Eagles Wane

United States Mint weekly bullion coin sales slowed as gold and silver prices fell. And numismatic products dropped in pace without the allure of newly released annual sets pulling collectors into the store — as happened in the prior two weeks when the uncirculated 2010 Mint Set and then the 2010 Proof Set launched. The two sets remain sales leaders, although weekly increases are falling quickly. The 2010 Mint Uncirculated Set went from its 247,085 debut to 46,321 and then 22,778. The 2010 Proof Set opened at 296,379, with the next seven days adding 54,637....
